Print media Subscriptions
In this age of new media and information traveling faster than Concorde flights, a lot of cynics have declared print media dead! I would like to differ. On the contrary print is not dead but rather it has shifted its focus by catering to a certain niche of the population-an elite group of consumers who want to be in the know(-Prof. Charles Whitaker).
The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, New York Times, and USA Today are still highly regarded reputable sources of information that perceptive consumers rely on to deliver ethical journalism and succinct pertinent information. Print extends beyond your daily newspapers; monthly magazines have also shifted their focus to these consumers in order to land those ad revenue. If you want to get a loved one, co-worker or even yourself a meaningful gift this holiday, make it a subscription to print media which will be sure to return a bountiful ROI. Here are a few of my choices
Harvard Business Review- I took a Team Leadership in Decision Making class with Professor Adam Goodman (I recommend this course for future business and civic leaders) and we had the opportunity to work on HBR case studies. Harvard Business Review Magazine is an extension of those case studies and is great for someone in leadership, business or decision making roles or an MBA student. If you aspire to occupy such a role in the future this magazine has a wealth of resource. The yearly price tag is a bit more than the average magazine but the information you will retain is above what your average magazine will give you. Click here for subscription options: SUBSCRIBE
Town & Country Magazine- I have read this mag for quite sometime and I'm always amazed at how much information and society pictures they pack into their pages and the different topics that are covered from month to month. A fun fact: Chicago Public Library-Harold Washington- has archives of T&C dating back to 1950's.

Esquire: There are very few magazines targeted towards the modern man that's beyond beer and brats and bOObs (there's absolutely nothing wrong with that). Esquire does a great job of giving the modern man a well dressed and well read voice and the great thing is females can learn a detail or two from the articles. Ebony: This venerable magazine recently underwent a makeover that was more Demi Moore circa Charlie's Angels than Kris and Bruce Jenner combined. Now helmed by Desiree Rogers(CEO) and EIC Amy DuBois Barnett, a fresher voice has been injected to the Chicago based magazine. While Rodrigo Sierra was CMO, they made some key strategic partnerships which has helped bring back some of the audience lost to Essence. Click here for subscription options: SUBSCRIBE
There are many print options to subscribe to beyond those listed above, and most of these publications are available for your ipad/tablet but I urge you to consider subscribing. You will be supporting the print media industry and also have a distraction to pack in your carry on while traveling. #winwin
