OSCAR DE LA RENTA PRE-FALL 2012

 Oscar De La Renta, previewed his Pre-Fall 2012 line earlier today in New York city. Most of the clothes in this pre-fall 2012 collection look very wearable and can go from work to play. There were some "Great Gatsby" Daisy Buchanan -esque pieces but a lot of these look to be made for the Chicago woman.

JENNIFER HUDSON IN TOKYO FASHION'S NIGHT OUT

Chicago Native and svelte Weight Watcher's spokesperson Jennifer Hudson was in Tokyo to help American designers celebrate Tokyo'sFashion Night Out. Fashion's Night  was the concept of Anna Wintour and some of the fashion industry  heavyweights to help put a jolt back in the lagging sales for the industry. It has since caught on and celebrated all across the globe. Ms. Hudson performed for Michael Kors at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to the United States. Other designers that took part in Tokyo Fashion's Night Out included Christopher Bailey of Burberry, Roberto Cavalli who recently opened a store in the city, Nicola Formichetti of Thierry Mugler and Vogue Japan EIC Anna Dello Russo.

 The mood was set by the luminescent glow that illuminated the garden at the Via Gesù show space. It was like the light from a swimming pool. And into that glow stalked the tawny-maned goddesses who have roamed the Versace landscape since time immemorial. "The meeting of old and new Versace," Donatella said. That meeting could mean something as elemental as neoprene and plissé in the same outfit. Or shorts where a pelmet mini would have once sufficed. And the gold studs were clearly something Donatella felt an affinity for, if the outfit she wore to take her bow was any indication.

And that may be the collection's greatest plus. There is no way to judge it outside its own context—and that context is Donatella. Those Lucite platforms? Pure blonde. The fractured starfish that anchored Sigrid Agren's bifurcated gown? The plissé pastels? The Reggio Calabrian white with the Greek inflection? And then we were treated to a show whose pure simplicity was refreshing and whose unique point of view made us feel as if fashion week had just begun – quite a feat when we’re only half way through Milan and a monster Paris Fashion Week is still to come.
